Then, holding down the fn key lets you change the volume, screen brightenss, etc… The keyboard on a Powerbook can do everything you want but it takes a little getting used to!
To change this setting look under Apple Menu > System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse > Keyboard and click the option to “Use the F1 - F12 to control software features”.
